Description of initiative
The Division of Enrollment Management (DEM) Learning Community (LC) was created by a sub-team of the Engagement, Inclusion and Diversity (EID) Team, which is sponsored by the DEM Directors and the Vice Provost for Enrollment Management. The sub-team developed a partnership with the Learning Communities for Institutional Change and Excellence to create a learning community similarly modeled after the Leadership Institute. The DEM LC is an annual program in which a cross-section of 25 colleagues from the offices within DEM (Admissions and Recruitment, the Student Information System, Office of the Registrar, and Student Financial Aid) meet weekly for 90 minutes for 6-8 months. Weekly learning themes include exploration of self, others, and systems; building relationships across the division; exploring intent versus impact; realizing the role you play and how you influence others in work, personal relationships and other communities; acquiring tools and skills to help build inclusive working environments; learning effective communication across differences; and looking at our social identities and how they impact us and others.
